چکیده

Urinary tract infections are one of the most commonly encountered infections in clinical practice. Due to the emergence of and increase in urinary tract bacteria that are resistant to trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, penicillin, cephalosporins, and fluoroquinolones, selection of appropriate antibiotics in treatment of these infections is important. In addition, the emergence of extended-spectrum betalactamase-producing organisms makes antibiotic selection difficult. This article provides a review of disease-specific uropathogens and their susceptibilities to antimicrobial agents. Keyword: Anti-infective agents

Ten years surveillance of antimicrobial susceptibility of community-acquired Escherichia coli and other uropathogens in northern Israel (1995-2005).

BACKGROUND In an era of increasing antimicrobial resistance, knowledge of local antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of common uropathogens is essential for prudent empiric therapy of community-acquired urinary tract infections. OBJECTIVES To define antimicrobial susceptibility of Gram-negative uropathogens in northern Israel over a 10 year period and to compare it with patterns of antibioti...

Prevalence and antibiotic susceptibility of Uropathogens from cases of urinary tract infections (UTI) in Shashemene referral hospital, Ethiopia

BACKGROUND Urinary tract infection (UTI) remains to be one of the most common infectious diseases diagnosed in developing countries. And a widespread use of antibiotics against uropathogens has led to the emergence of antibiotic resistant species. A laboratory based cross-sectional survey was conducted in Shashemene referral hospital to determine the prevalence and antibiotic susceptibility of ...

The Importance of Gender-Stratified Antibiotic Resistance Surveillance of Unselected Uropathogens: A Dutch Nationwide Extramural Surveillance Study

Few studies have been performed on urinary tract infections (UTIs) in men. In the present study, general practitioners (n = 42) from the Dutch Sentinel General Practice Network collected urinary samples from 560 male patients (≥ 18 years) suspected of UTI and recorded prescribed antibiotic treatment. In this way, the antibiotic susceptibility of Gram-negative uropathogens, including extended-sp...

Biofilm Production among Uropathogens and Their Antibiogram

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is the most commonly acquired bacterial infection. Antibiotic resistance of uropathogens has been known to increase worldwide and biofilm production being the prime cause. The objective of this study was to detect the production of biofilm by uropathogens isolated from UTIs and their antimicrobial susceptibility pattern. A total 570 urine samples from clinically su...
